Aqua Foundation Announces New Program Director
Aqua Foundation for Women is pleased to announce that Elsa Roberts has stepped into the role of Program Director, overseeing the Foundation’s scholarship and grants programs. Elsa joined Aqua Foundation’s staff in July, 2011 and has taken on increasing responsibility since then. Her background working with LGBT college students and youth outreach has been a definite asset to the organization’s scholarship and mentor program.
As Program Director, Elsa’s goals will be to continue expanding and developing Aqua Foundation’s programs, building relationships within the community and widening the foundation’s influence in South Florida, all important factors to AFW growing its reach and better serving the needs of the area’s LBT women. Continuing AFW’s current trend of year over year increases in scholarship program applications and scholarship awards will be another key goal. States Aqua Foundation Executive Director, Robin Schwartz, “The appointment of Elsa Roberts in this position will allow Aqua to continue working diligently to deepen its programming and bring the best possible resources to the population it serves. Having worked with her for over a year, we know her many capabilities and have high expectations for her success.” One of Aqua’s first steps toward this is sending Elsa to a week-long Leadership Training in the fall. With this knowledge she will begin running the new leadership training component. She has continued to strengthen the mentoring program by providing consistent support and vision to the mentors, as well as increasing our number of mentor applicants which has further enriched this program.
Having a dedicated Program Director has already resulted in increased impact of our grants program, with more targeted, focused outreach about the program and a more streamlined application process. Robin says that “Aqua Foundation is excited for the years to come as we continue to bring much needed grant opportunities and scholarships to the South Florida LBT women’s community.” These programs have resulted in funding for a women’s health care directory, in creating safer environments for LBT women, and in over 50 scholarships to date! As Aqua Foundation continues to grow so will our impact, enabling us to support more positive change in the community.
