Aqua
Foundation for Women Hires Program Director
(Miami, Florida – September
8, 2006)
We are excited to welcome María Cora,
to the Aqua Foundation for Women family. Maria is the first
staff member for AFW since it’s inception two years
ago and represents an exciting step in our growth.
Maria moved from San Francisco to South Florida just one
year ago, with her partner. She brings with her 16 years
experience with the Office of Women’s Health at the
San Francisco Department of Public Health dedicated to protecting
the health of women, adolescents and LGBT communities.
She implemented projects in collaboration with the Lesbian
Health Research Center at UCSF, the Dimensions Queer Youth
Health Clinic and the Lavender Youth Resource Information
Center.
Maria was also a Member of the Board of Directors of the
San Francisco LGBT Community Center and a founding member
of several lesbian of color community organizations including
the Nia Collective, Mujerío and Ellas En Acción.
Maria received her Bachelors degree from Harvard University
and her Masters degree at San Francisco State University.
Her experience and passion for our community will be a great
asset to us all.
